Welcome to the fifth edition of the new monthly Happy Valley newsletter!
Each issue brings you practical classroom and at-home tips for Happy Valley 1, 2 and 3 — and this month we jump into Unit 5 with fruit-snack fun, beach gear, and “Where’s Kinka?” playground adventures!

HV1 Unit 5 – Fruit Snack
Targets / 目標
- Say fruit names & colours.
果物と色を言おう。 - Answer “How are you?”
“How are you?” に答えよう。
Key Language / 重要表現
- Q: “What is it?” ／ Q: これは何？
A: “It’s an apple.” ／ A: それはりんごです。 - A: “I’m happy / sleepy / hungry.” ／ A: わたしはうれしいです／ねむいです／おなかがすいています。

Classroom Tip / 教室でのヒント
Play-Dough Fruit Market – Give each child play-dough to model tiny fruit. Set up a “market” where they “buy” and “sell” using “What is it?” / “It’s a peach.” Review colours as they pay.
プレイドウ・フルーツ・マーケット – 子どもたちにプレイドウで小さな果物を作らせ、
At-Home Tip / おうちでのヒント
Snack-Time Colours – At snack time ask “What colour is your banana?” Child answers “It’s yellow!” Finish with “How are you?” – many love to reply “I’m hungry!” before eating.
おやつタイム・カラーズ – おやつの時間に “What colour is your banana?” と聞きましょう。子どもが “It’s yellow!” と答えたら、最後に “How are you?” と尋ね、“I’m hungry!” と言わせてから食べ始めます。
HV2 Unit 5 – At the Beach
Targets / 目標
- Say beach items.
ビーチの物を言おう。 - Ask & answer “Do you have…?”
“Do you have … ?” を聞いて答えよう。 - Count 1 – 15.
1〜15 を数えよう。
Key Language / 重要表現
- Q: “Do you have a pail?” ／ Q: バケツを持っていますか？
A: “Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.” ／ A: はい、持っています／いいえ、持っていません。

Classroom Tip / 教室でのヒント
Shovel & Pail Relay – Teams race with a toy shovel and pail, scoop a flashcard, run back and shout the word “Shell!” Then ask / answer “Do you have a shell?” for extra practice.
シャベル＆バケツ・リレー – チームに分かれ、シャベルとバケツを持って走ります。
At-Home Tip / おうちでのヒント
Bath-Toy Treasure Hunt – Float small toys or shells in the bath. Parent asks “Do you have a dolphin?” Child finds it and answers “Yes, I do!” Count each catch aloud to 15.
バスタイム・トレジャーハント – お風呂に小さなおもちゃや貝殻を浮かべます。保護者が “Do you have a dolphin?” と聞き、子どもが探して “Yes, I do!” と答えます。取った数を 15 まで声に出して数えましょう。
HV3 Unit 5 – Where’s Kinka?
Targets / 目標
- Say playground equipment.
遊具の名前を言おう。 - Ask & answer “Where’s…?”
“Where’s … ?” で場所をたずねよう。 - Use prepositions on / in / under.
前置詞 on / in / under を使おう。
Key Language / 重要表現
- Q: “Where’s Kinka?” ／ Q: キンカはどこ？
A: “On the swings.” ／ A: ブランコの上です。

Classroom Tip / 教室でのヒント
In-On-Under Statues – One child places a Kinka card on / in / under a chair “playground”; partner asks “Where’s Kinka?” and answers with the correct preposition. Swap and race!
イン・オン・アンダー・スタチューズ – 子どもが椅子などで遊具を作り、もう一人がキンカカードを on / in / under に置きます。ペアで “Where’s Kinka?” と聞き、正しい前置詞で答えましょう。
At-Home Tip / おうちでのヒント
Mini-Playground Hide-and-Seek – Use cushions or blocks to build a tiny playground on the table. Hide a small figure and ask “Where’s the teddy?” Child answers “Under the slide!” – perfect preposition practice.
ミニ遊園地かくれんぼ – クッションやブロックでテーブルに小さな遊園地を作ります。
